How Chiefland Arrests Work
The Chiefland Police Department is the city source whenever its officers write an incident or arrest report. That report covers the event itself. It also gives the agency's stated basis for the arrest. Levy County handles booking separately. When a person enters county custody, the detention system creates its own record, one that may list a book date, booking number, facility, charges, holds, bond data, release date, and an arresting-agency field. Keeping the two records apart matters. The incident location, a person's home city, the arresting agency, and the booking facility can all differ. Chiefland counted 2,316 residents in the April 1, 2020 Census, according to the official Florida EDR Census Summary. The city also works as a retail and service hub for the tri-county area. That makes the agency field worth a second look. A Chiefland arrest story may involve LCSO, city police, a state agency, or an outside department. A Chiefland address alone settles nothing. Start with the agency named on the record. The city label can mislead.
Where Chiefland Arrests Appear
Chiefland publishes no daily arrest log. The city lists no same-day booking page, weekly blotter, or mugshot roster in its official menus. So the right source depends on the question. Try CPD or the City Clerk for a city-created report, the county roster for current or recent Levy custody, and the Clerk of Court for the later case. News pages and private indexes can help pin down a date. They never replace the official record.
| Channel | What it covers | Photo status | Authority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chiefland Police | City incident and arrest reports made by CPD | Ask the record custodian | Official city agency |
| Levy Jail Tracker | Current custody and releases within 7 or 30 days | Individual detail may display an offender image | Officially linked county roster |
| LCSO press releases | Selected investigations and notable arrests | Varies by story | Official, but not a full feed |
| HardisonInk | Selected Levy-area public-safety stories | Some stories may have images | Unofficial news archive |
| Private Levy indexes | Copied city, agency, and older booking entries | May retain copied images | Unofficial; verify every detail |
Private archives have real limits. A listing can sit stale, run behind, or attach to the wrong city or agency. An old image can linger after the roster changes. Treat such results as clues, then confirm the booking with LCSO, the report with CPD, and the disposition with the Levy County Clerk.
Find a Chiefland Booking
Levy County posts no official 24-hour booking feed. Jail Tracker is a custody roster, not a minute-by-minute list of every Chiefland arrest. Its filters remain the fastest official check. Current Only and Released views work best when someone may have entered Levy County custody.
- Search Levy Jail Tracker by first and last name. Try Current Only first.
- Repeat the search with Released in Last 7 Days, then 30 Days. Note spelling, book date, release date, booking number, facility, and arresting agency.
- If intake may be recent, call the LCSO Detention Bureau at 352-486-5121. The roster publishes no exact update time or maximum delay.
- For a CPD incident report, contact Chiefland Police or the City Clerk. For the county booking record or an existing booking photo, use the Sheriff custodian.
- For the case outcome, ask the Levy County Clerk. A disposition is the court's final result, such as dismissal, plea, acquittal, or conviction.
An empty roster result proves little. Booking may still be in progress. A name may differ, the person may have been released, or another county may hold them. The Levy County recent-arrests guide covers the full county record and custody chain.
Chiefland Arrest Record Requests
The City of Chiefland names City Clerk and City Manager Laura Cain as its public-records custodian. Its public-records notice takes phone, email, or in-person requests. Not every city record sits online. Include the essentials. Give the person's name, the approximate event date, the location if known, and the report type. Ask whether CPD holds the file first. The city channel opens city records, but the county jail's booking file stays with Levy County.

Send each request to the office that made or keeps the record. CPD handles city police reports. LCSO is the route for a Levy booking entry, detention record, or existing booking photograph. The Sheriff posts no photo fee. Name the record you want. Ask for an estimate before copies run, and note that the Sheriff guarantees no response time, since one identified image is not a gallery request.
Chiefland Arrest News Limits
Levy-area news picks and chooses. HardisonInk's Levy County archive posts individual arrest, warrant-service, and court stories as news develops. Regional 352today sometimes covers a Levy arrest or warrant from an agency announcement. Cedar Key News has republished an LCSO Jail Media Report. That countywide sheet is not a Chiefland-only log, though. Old Chiefland Citizen and Levy Citizen issues live in the Florida Digital Newspaper Library. An old arrest table cannot show present custody. No Chiefland newspaper runs a current mugshot feed. Stories can skip routine bookings, run late, or use an agency image that later changes. Check the publication date and the cited agency. Charges can shift after booking when the State Attorney revises or declines them, so the official record gets the last word.
No Chiefland Arrest Blotter
Chiefland publishes no daily arrest blotter. CPD has never posted one. Waiting on that city list wastes time. Search the Levy County roster instead, and call the agency when an arrest is too fresh or the custody location is unclear. LCSO press releases add context. They read as stories. No full rundown of Chiefland recent arrests appears there. Jail Tracker handles Current Only plus released-within-seven-or-thirty-day searches. It promises no hourly refresh or intake deadline. Fingerprints, booking photos, classification, and bond review can each delay a new arrest from showing. The county's 24 Hour Arrests page explains this same-day gap and the official fallback, and the official LCSO press-release page shows the county material available when no municipal blotter exists.
The LCSO press-release page displays written narratives rather than a roster of names.
Chiefland Booking Photo Path
Levy's Jail Tracker detail screen has controls for the offender image, a larger view, and the original size. Not every booking shows a photo. LCSO makes no such promise. When an image is missing, ask the Sheriff's records custodian to inspect or copy an existing booking photograph. Statutory exemptions may still apply. If CPD keeps a separate photo in its own report, the city custodian handles that request.
Never detach a face from its record. Note the booking date, the agency, and the booking number. A booking photo marks one stage of the process, nothing more. Custody status decides which search fits. Someone listed under Current Only sits in county custody at that moment. A recent-release result only means the person left the listed status. It says nothing about how the court case ended. A person sentenced to state prison lands in the Florida Department of Corrections search. That state ID and profile photo differ from a Levy booking number and county image. For whether a charge survived, the Clerk's case file beats either photo source.
Public-records law does not force every field online. Exemptions and redactions still apply. Protected personal details, victims, active matters, and some juvenile material are the usual areas. The custodian makes that call. Ask for a named record. Accept a lawful redaction rather than reading an empty image area as proof no photo was ever taken.
